My wife of 25 years is a US citizen with Landed status in = Canada. She has lived in Canada since we were married in 1978. We live = in Abbotsford. She is concerned that she must file with IRS for her = small yearly income she earns as a part-time pre-school teacher here. I = told her that IRS would not come after her for back taxes for an average = yearly income of $15,000. What is the truth here? If she does have to = file what would be your charge for doing so?=20 Please advise us. Thank you. That is their mandate, job description, reason to be, = etc. Because you live in Abbotsford, I am willing to bet that your wife = is in the US four or five times a month using her US citizenship = everytime she crosses the border.. She should file back 6 years at least and include any year that you = might have sold a house. You should b Assuming that she has no mutual funds with capital gains and dividends, = etc, our fee would likely be in the $700 range. If she has a mutual = fund or a Canadian RRSP, the fees would be higher because of the = reporting rules for foreign bank (financial) accounts and the new heavy = duty rules "enforcement" for Canadian RRSP accounts. (goto www.centa.com = and read the August 2003 newsletter for more details on this). If there = are Foreign accounts and mutual funds and RRSP accounts, you can double = the quoted fee at least. Your wife should take out her Canadian citizenship as well. She loses = nothing and gains a lot. Hope this helps.
