My Fiance is a US citizen and she immigrated to Canada and became a PR on Dec 1/03. She then got a job and worked in Canada for all of December. Obviously she has to do her taxes in the US, but does she claim the canadian income down there? nad how? Also what does she need to do for her canadian tax return as far as claiming any US income for the 2003 tax year? ======================================================== david ingram replies: As a US citizen, she has to report the Canadian Income on her US 1040. If she waits a year, she can exempt it on form 1555 but has toi file form 1350 to get teh yerar's extension. Her Canadian return does not include the US income but you have to pro-rate her exemptions by the number of days she was in Canada- i.e. 31/365 x's her exemption amounts. You should likely have us do this entering Canada return. She also has to continue to file her US return every year in the future. Goto www.centa.com and read the US/Canada Taxation section.
