This is a multi-part message in MIME format. ---------------------- multipart/alternative attachment QUESTION: I am having renovations done on my house. Some of the quotes include PST calculated from the total. I was told that only GST could be charged on the total. The PST for matierials that the contractor buys is added into the Sub-Total. Is this true? --------------------------------------------------------------------------- david ingram replies: Goto http://www.rev.gov.bc.ca/ctb/publications/bulletins/sst_072.pdf to read the PST Contractor's Bulletin. Basically, your question is answered in the bulletin. Depending upon the contract and the "contractor" PST is sometimes charged on the labour if the improvement could be removed and is generally not charged if the installation is considerd an improvement to realty. There are other exemptions for safety and disabled installations. We could really have fun here if the improvement you are making is considered a detriment to the property such as a swimming pool which rarely adds to the value of a property in BC. hope this helps. You will have to ask your contractors "why" they are charging PST on labour. Print out the bulletin and ask why "they" are doing so?
