For casual labor, There is a summer job program which allows you to start as early as May 15 and work as late as October 19 each year. However, you are limited to working a maximum of 4 months during that time frame. The USA summer season begins with the Memorial day weekend (about May 26) and ends on labor day weekend (about September 5). This would allow you to work some time but only for four months and only between May 15th and Oct 19th. Presumably, you could be there as a visitor for another six months or so by leaving and returning as a visitor.
