US Filing Date Tax Filing Dates in General - David
Sent: Sunday, February 05, 2006 6:23 PM To: taxman at centa.com Subject: US Filing Date David , Being a US Citizen but non-resident is the due date for taxes automatically June or do I have to file an extension first to get that date ? I am just awaiting all my final paperwork before sending you off my items to do my taxes again this year. Thanks -- ---------------------------------------------------------------- ----- david ingram repkies: There is an automatic extension for US citizens living in Canada or any other country. The automatic extension date is to June 15th which makes it very convenient for self employed people because their Canadian Filing has been extended to June 15th as well. The Canadian date applies to the self employed person AND their spouse. In general from now the dates are: Feb 28th - last day for Canadian employers to issue T4 and T4A slips to employees and contractors March 31st - last day for trusts and non-resident agents to issue T3 and NR4 forms April 15th - last day for US residents in US to file their 1040 or 1040NR forms unless they file form 4868 which will give an automatic extension until Oct 15th - WATCH OUT for state extensions though - some states recognize the Federal extension, some like California have their own which requires estimated tax to be paid with it. April 30th - last day for Canadian employees to file their T1 income tax returns June 15th last day for US citizens and Resident Aliens to file their 1040 or 1040NR tax returns when they are living outside the US unless they file form 4868 which gives an automatic extension until Oct 15th. Watch out, your state return may already be late. June 15th - last day for self employed Canadians or Canadian residents (and their spouses) to file their T1 returns without penalty - There will be interest from April 30th on any outstanding balance. June 30th - last date for Non-resident owners of Canadian rental property to file their Canadian section 216(4) income tax returns June 30th - last day for US residents and US citizens anywhere to file their T DF 90-22.1 forms with the Department of the Treasury in Detroit Hope this helps.
