PART II Bio Diesel Fuel what/where is tax on Vegetable
As usual, our members came through There was another one with a different phone number from someone else that had worked in the lab as well. Unfortunately, it came in to the web site itself and not to me at taxman at centa.com and was stripped out as I reqad it. If that person wants to resend it to me, I will forward it on to the interested party. If anyone wants to send me something, please send it to taxman at centa.com rather than to the list. the list gets 100 spam things a day and anything to the list gets thrown away in general. david Sent: Friday, October 14, 2005 6:54 AM To: taxman at centa.com; centapede at lists.centa.com Subject: Re: what/where is tax on Vegetable oil powered trucks paid? ask international income tax expert preparation & immigration consultant david ingram, North Vancouver, BC, Canada experts on RRSP RESP IRA 401(K) radio CKBD 600AM 9 AM Sunday mornin Hi David, I used to work for the federal government in the same lab facility as the bio diesel group (using canola oil to power vehicles). I would check with Agriculture and agrifood Canada and (306) 956-7200 While I was there a guy named Martin Reaney had a bus or two up and running on canola Biodiesel. He might know a bit about how the tax issues were handled. Normally I pay taxes at the pump for 'road use' and 'transit tax' Do I have claim, register or do something because I am going to using vegetable oil, and not paying the taxes, but still using the roadways. In Europe, they are required to register with customs and excise, and estimate the usage, and pay tax base on information submitted. DXXXX --------------------------------------------- david ingram replies: Congratulations, i saw the report about this on television about a year ago and heard someone from Kelowna talking about it on a radio program a while ago as well. I went and looked (I am an amateur compared to you when it comes to Computers) but could not find anything in BC or anywhere else in North America dealing with the subject specifically as far as road tax was concerned. When I was going to the University of Manitoba an eternity ago, we ran a Model A Ford with the gas produced from a decaying dead cat and I know we paid no road tax on the original dead cat. When propane conversions were popular at the start, there was no road tax on propane and I do not think there is now. The BC tax on diesel is 9 cents a litre with another 12 cents per litre for the Greater Vancouver Translink tax - You are in Abbotsford and I think you escape the extra tax. However, refined or clarified vegetable oil is not diesel. Take a look at the following page and see if it applies to you http://www.rev.gov.bc.ca/ctb/notices/GVTT_Notice_March2005.pdf You can find the actual BC fuel tax return FIN427 at http://www.rev.gov.bc.ca/ctb/forms/0427FILL.pdf If you do collect or decide to pay the tax, you should get paid a commission -- the commission form for fuel tax is at http://www.rev.gov.bc.ca/CTB/forms/0376FILL.pdf#search='FTGTAX' The following form deals with kerosene, jet fuel, diesel, and another dozen related products but does not mention propane or vegetable oil. Go for it and good luck. Does any other reader have a comment to make? Answers to this and other similar questions can be obtained free on Air every Sunday morning.
