Subject: taking leased U.S. vehicle to Canada Expert: taxman at centa.com Date: Wednesday March 23, 2005 Time: 12:59 PM -0800 QUESTION: I am a Canadian citizen, primary residence in Ontario. I own a home in Florida and spent winter from mid November to May. . less than 6 months in Florida. I plan to lease a vehicle and licence it in Florida. Will I have problems with Canadian officials on entering Canada with this vehicle. Vis a vis Ontario sales tax, transport Canada, Customs and Excise if I bring the vehicle to Canada for the summers. I have been unable to get a clear response to this question from the Canadian government who seem to only deal with importing purchased vehicles. your advise will be greatly appreciated. Thank you --------------------------------------- david ingram replies: If you are a Canadian "resident" You can NOT bring a US registered vehicle into Canada to drive unless you have paid the full import duties on the vehicle. You CAN lease a vehicle in Canada and take it to the US if you are a Canadian resident. Answers to this and other similar questions can be obtained free on Air every Sunday morning.
