Hello David-
A satisfied paying customer here. I'm a US citizen living in
Canada, and I want to vote in the upcoming presidential
elections. According to the official US site (www.fvap.gov), I
need to fill out a form and send it to the last state I lived in
(in my case, California). They'll send me the ballot and I mail
it back by the deadline....the so-called "absentee ballot"
process.
But, I worry that doing so might somehow re-instate me as a
"resident" of California and possibly subject me to file a
California return. Also, many states have a policy that
registering to vote also makes you eligible for jury duty there -
I sure would hate to have to fly back just to tell a judge that I
live in Canada and can't server on a jury!
Can you give any assurances that these two fears would not be
realized?

In my 39 - going on 40 - years in this business, I have never
once had a person called for jury duty or required to file a
state tax return because they are registered to vote.
However, "just in case", I am sending this out to the list to see
if anyone else has an opinion.
