Loonie Tunes - Update for Canadian Exporters -
This is an excellent seminar which competes with my own. I have attended it and it is well worth attending if you are a businessman aspiring to open in the USA. I will be announcing my own repeat of a seminar soon. Mine deals more with the personal aspects of taxation when you work across the border and what kind of visa you will need to do so. ============================================================================ = For Immediate Release - February 2, 2004 Contact: Jim Pettinger, 360-671-8866 or [email protected] Higher loonie may hurt old exporters, but it helps new exporters While established Canadian exporters to the USA may be hurting, the surging loonie is good news for entrepreneurs and new exporters eyeing the lucrative U.S. market. Even at a so-called "unfavorable" exchange rate of $.75, the USA market, with its huge size and positive business attitude, is still a great exporting opportunity for just about any Canadian or other imported product or service. Recently, a major barrier for new exporters has been the cost of funding their USA launch in Canadian dollars. Buying U.S. dollars for CDN $1.60+ was expensive. But today, at a more reasonable CDN $1.30, and with many purchase discounts available, Canadian companies can buy products, services, travel, and attend trade shows for up to 50 percent less than just two years ago. According to Jim Pettinger, president of International Market Access, Inc. a Bellingham, Washington firm that assists USA exporters, "The economic recovery in the USA is well underway, and most economists are optomistic about 2004 (a presidential election year). Right now is a great time to stake your position. And with the added support provided by traditional and improved Canadian government programs, it should really be a no-brainer." Bill Johnston, director of the federal government’s International Trade Centre in Vancouver echoes Pettinger’s sentiments. "Studies indicate that those who use government export assistance programs are four times more likely to succeed in exporting than those who do it independently. No other country has Canada’s support programs and services for exporters. Under the umbrella of Team Canada Inc, and more locally, Trade Team British Columbia, both new and experienced exporters have a leg up on their competition." An upcoming event of interest to exporters to the USA is "Doing Business in the USA", a one-day seminar in Richmond, BC on March 11. More information on this and other trade events is available at www.ucantrade.com and www.bctradeevents.com. From its 15,000 sq. ft. facility in Bellingham, Washington, International Market Access, Inc. provides more than 100 Canadian exporters with USA Marketing Support Services, including USA business identity, warehousing, distribution, order processing, fulfillment, foreign-trade zone services and product representation. ------------------------------------------------ This Announcement is furnished by: International Market Access, Inc.
