This is a multi-part message in MIME format. ---------------------- multipart/alternative attachment Hi, I am Canadian citizen 65+ physically disabled as per Doctor's report in Toronto Canada . I have no income and no CPP contributions. I have completed 9 years 7 months in Canada. I am staying with my daughter or son, who provide me care giving and also arrange for my food and accomodation. Please advise what I am entitled to and how can I claim ? Regards MXXXXXXXXXX ============================================================ david ingram replies: I have reproduced the current Old Age Security rates for your information. You will quailfy for 25% of the rate stateed because you have to be here for 40 years after age 18 to qualify for the full pension. You will be getting 25% of the OAS and the Guaranteed Income supplements at the amounts I have highlighted in Maroon below. You should have been filing a Canadian Income tax return each year to get your GST credit as well. If you have not been doing so, you may backfile the returns now and get about $1,600 in your pocket.. In any case, make sure that you have filed your 2003 return because it has to be filed to qualify for the GIS. You can get your OAS application at a post office and should send it in 90 days before you qualify for your ten years. . Old Age Security Benefit Payment Rates October - December 2003 Type of Benefit Recipient Average monthly benefit (July 2003) Maximum Monthly Benefit Maximum Annual Income Old Age Security Pension All recipients $441.43 $461.55 See note Guaranteed Income Supplement Single person $371.17 $548.53 $13,176 Spouse of pensioner $227.74 $357.30 $17,184 Spouse of non-pensioner $365.05 $548.53 $31,920 Spouse of Allowance recipient $285.92 $357.30 $31,920 Allowance All recipients $306.69 $818.85 $24,576 Allowance for the survivor All recipients $493.94 $904.03 $18,024 I trust that your daughter or son has been claiming your disability on their return and a deduction amount for supporting you and the caregiver amount for the last three years. If they have not been doing so, they may backfile their returns as well.
