QUESTION:
Hi,
I'm a U.S green card holder and I was wondering if it's possible to work in Canada with it? or do I need to apply for the permanent residency in Canada?
I would like to open a restaurant or something, that's why.
Thanks for your help,
HXXXX

david ingram replies:
Your green card gives you no rights in Canada and since you sent me this from a Canadian address, I am assuming that you may be in Canada illegally now. If so, you are in danger of losing your green card as well, so get back across the border and be legal some place.
If you have sufficient funds, (basically $800,000 Canadian) you could likely come as a business entrepreneur. However, your move to Canada would likely result in the loss of your green card for the US, something that others would willingly pay $1,,000,000 or more for the legal possession of.
Get back across the border and get your US citizenship. Then, think about moving to Canada so that if it does not work out, you can always go back to the US and do not get sent back to your original country.

Be careful here. Do NOT go ahead without competent help or you will lose that green card.
