This from "ask an income tax and immigration expert" from www.centa.com or www.jurock.com dealing with multi jurisdictional cross and trans border expatriate problems
CAN A MARRIED COUPLE MOVE TO CANADA FROM THE U.S.WHO BOTH HAVE DISABILITY AND THE HUSBAND'S PENSION. MY HUSBAND IS 59 AND I WILL BE 55 IN DEC. 03. WHAT ARE OUR TAX LIABILITIES IF WE WORK THERE AND ARE NOT CANADIAN CITIZENS? THE U.S. SAYS WE CAN BOTH WORK IN THE U.S. AND MAKE NO MORE THAN $800 A MONTH EACH AND STILL KEEP OUR DISABILITY AND MEDICARE BENEFITS.. DO WE PAY CANADIAN AND U.S TAXES?

david ingram replies:
I am sorry, but under the circumstances described, at your age, you would not qualify to immigrate to Canada.
Do not feel bad though. Our presentr Prime Minster of Canada would not qualify, I do not qualify and most of hte Premiers of our provinces do not qualify to immigrate to Canada.
If you want to try the self-assessment test, go to:
http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/skilled/assess/Education.asp
Both of you try it.
