Hello,
I would like to find someone to prepare my US Income taxes for this year.
>From the resources I find online, I suspect that your group, like most of the others I found, are primarily for wealthy expats rather than a newly divorced woman living on $3000 USD per month. If so, I would appreciate your telling me and if possible recommending someone appropriate for my needs?!
Here is my situation, as briefly as possible:
After 29 years as a Foreign Service Officer's wife, I left my husband and have resided (as a visitor) in Quebec, Canada since Jan 1, 2001. I am in the process of immigrating but am not yet a permenent resident here. My divorce was final in Feb 2003 and this will be my first year to pay income taxes for
myself.
Prior to that divorce date, my husband was obliged to pay my taxes.
My alimony is $3000 USD per month and that is my sole income--I am not allowed to work in Canada as a visitor. I have $130,000 USD in mutual funds and $50,000 USD in personal IRA ---all as settlement from my divorce. I have
also invested $33,000 USD in my Quebec friend's business, but receive no income from that---it was done primarily to help my friend.
My friend is now my common-law partner in Quebec and she is sponsoring my immigration. I will never re-marry and cannot do so or I would lose my share of my ex-husband's Federal pension that will be my income instead of alimony when he retires (possibly next year). At that time my income will be reduced to around $2500
USD per month.
Can you help me, and more importantly, can I afford you?
