Husband retiring from USAF in Dallas and moving to
I have edited the subject in this email My question is: Applicable to both US and Canada QUESTION: My husband is retiring from The USAF and is persuing a job in Canada. We are both citizens of the United States. 1. Do we remain a citzen of US when we live in Canada or 2. should we become a citizen, knowing that we would return to the US. 3. Also is there a listing for all the tax laws we would encounter while there? Thank you for your help, really enjoyed the site was full of helpful information. thank you ---------------------------------------------------------- david ingram replies: 1. You will always be a US citizen no matter where you are in the world unless you appear at a consulkar office and fill in a four page form and formally revoke your US citizenship before a Consular officer. 2. Canadian Citizenship can be a boon to anyone. It would mean that you could live here, leave for tewn years and then come back at will. Perhaps to retire under our medical system which I feel is vastly superior to the US one for 70% of the population. 3. Well, there is the tax act and you can find out all sorts of information at http://www.ccra-adrc.gc.ca And, if you go to my own website at www.centa.com and click on tax guide, there is a whole book that sold over 300,000 copies ten years ago. Although the tax rates are out of date, the principles for everything there are still correct. 4. And if you go to www.centa.com and click on US/Canada Tax, you will find the best explanation of what you have to do and some of the differences I know of. Of course, helping people individually is what we do by phone, fax, email, etc. At present, we look after clients in thirty states and 60 countries.
