His enthusiasm failed to impress his property manager. Ingram waves U.S. flag Jane Seyd [email protected] WEST Vancouver tax consultant and former talk show host David Ingram says he won't back down on flying the flag to show his support for the United States. Ingram, who works out of an office at 100 Park Royal South, recently raised the ire of property managers after he decided to place six Canadian and American flags in a flower planter outside his office window. Ingram decided to plant the 12-inch flags because he wanted to make a statement about unity between the two countries. "This business of bad relations between Canada and the U.S. that has been taking place shouldn't be happening," he said. It's a statement that Ingram has already made publicly before. During the U.S. war in Iraq, Ingram organized a pro-U.S. rally at the south end of Vancouver's Burrard Street Bridge. Ingram said Canada was wrong not to join the U.S. in the Iraq campaign. The tension between the two countries over that decision has affected many of his acquaintances, he said. "We do about 50 per cent of our business with the United States." Ingram said he recently had that message brought home to him when he tried to buy a computer printer on eBay from an American. "The man wouldn't sell it to me because I was a Canadian," he said. "He didn't like Canada because Mr. Chretien was not supporting the United States in their Iraq campaign." Ingram thought the flags looked great amongst the purple and yellow pansies in the flower planter. "I had a couple dozen people stop and say 'Boy that looks good!' " he said. "They were really pretty. They were waving in the breeze." The property manager didn't agree. Instead, he phoned Ingram and told him to remove the flags from the flower bed, pointing out the flower planter is in a common area of the building. Ingram refused. "I said I'm not going to take them out. They look great." Next, the property manager sent someone down to remove the flags. "He took them out and I grabbed them out of his hand and put them back up," said Ingram. Nasty phone calls ensued. Ingram said for now, he's decided to back off. But don't expect this to be the end of it, he said. This weekend, Ingram is involved in organizing a pro-U.S. rally at the Seaforth Armoury in Vancouver as a follow-up to the pro-U.S. rally he lead last month. When he gets some more time, though, he has plans for Park Royal. "I'll call 100 friends over and they can come and park in the parking lot with their American flags and Canadian flags flying and I'll have a party," he said. The building's property managers could not be reached for comment to press time. david ingram - [email protected] 108-100 Park Royal South West Vancouver, BC, CANADA, V7T 1A2 (604) 913-9133 - (604) 913-9123 www.centa.com Cell is (604) 657-8451 (10 AM to 10 PM seven days a week) US / CANADA / MEXICO Working Visa and Income Tax Specialists Be ALERT, the world needs more "lerts" --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free.
